This option enables a direct interface with the BizCardReader 600C scanner. Business cards and insurance ID cards are readily scanned and saved on the system for later recall by other operators. The image is saved with a prefix of the owning account and patient to facilitate rapid retrieval of all scanned images for a particular patient. Having a scanned image of this information enables operators to view/print this data as required, from any workstation on the network.
The actual scanning function requires a BizCardReader 600C installed on the workstation(s) which will perform the scan (See manufacturer's instructions). The saved images may then be viewed and printed from any Panacea workstation, by selecting the patient <Miscellaneous> tab and clicking on the <View Images> button.
Important Note: For proper operation, you must change one default setting of the BizCardReader, after it is installed. Execute the manufacturers software (Programs,BizCardReader,BizCardReader 5.0) and click the <Settings, Scanner> menu item. Un-check the option "Automatically start scanning when document is on the card scanner" and click <OK>. If this is not done, Panacea will not be able to control the scanner operation.
From the menu tree view, select <Patients> then <BizCardReader>. The program will appear with a background picture like the main menu.
If you have previously looked up a valid account, the account and patient number will already be filled in for you. If not you must first enter a valid account and patient number to identify the patient to whom this image will belong.
Once a valid account and patient number have been entered, the <Scan> button will become visible and the patient name will be displayed below the account number.
The first time the scanner is used and again every 3 to 4 months, you must calibrate the scanner - see instructions below.
Place an ID card in the scanner, face down and top edge first, then click the <Scan> button. The scanner will capture the image and display the results on the screen.
If the scanned results are not satisfactory, you may simply repeat the previous step as required.
You will note that other buttons will appear, once an image has been scanned.
<Rotate Image> - should you accidentally insert the card upside down, this button will enable you to rotate the image clockwise, 90 degrees at a time to achieve the proper orientation, without having to re-scan the image.
<Save Image> - This button must be clicked in order to permanently save the image for the patient.
Note: see <Set Output Folder> below for the first time you use the scanner.
When clicked, you will be prompted to enter a descriptive name foe this image. The default of "inscard" is automatically set, but may be changed as desired.
For multiple insurance cards, you may wish to add a sequence number to the name, e.g. "inscard2"
<Set Output Folder> - Use this button the first time you use the scanner to set the folder name where all images in the future will be stored. Typically, all images should be stored on a single computer such as the server, in a shared folder named "\Panacea_Images". This facilitates all other stations in accessing the data.
Note: Scanned images can occupy large amounts of disk space. In choosing a location to store the images, consider the disk capacity available and the limitations of your tape backup device in its ability to back up this data. A typical business card or insurance card will require approximately 82K of disk space.
<Print> - This button will cause the displayed image to be printed to the default printer for this workstation.
<Exit> - Exit the program and return to the main menu.
Calibration. The first time the scanner is used and every 3 to 4 months, or anytime the images do not scan with acceptable clarity, you must calibrate the unit.
Enter a valid account number to activate the <Scan> button.
Check the <Calibrate> check box.
Insert one of the Calibration Sheets which came with the scanner unit, face down as indicated on the sheet itself.
Click the <Scan> button.
